Mountains were formed when pieces of the Earth’s crust and big rocks collided with each other. These marvellous and majestic mountains are some of the most magnificent and awe-inspiring natural wonders of our planet. They stand tall and proud, often stretching across vast landscapes, providing a dramatic backdrop to a picturesque view. But, these natural guardians have a much bigger role to play. They are not just nature’s protectors by keeping our planet safe and alive, providing important habitats for endangered species or helping to regulate global climate systems or being the main sources of water for the whole planet, but also protecting a nation from foreign invaders.
When we think of mountains, the first image that comes is of the Himalayas. They act as a physical barrier that separates India from other Asian countries. Our monsoon climate is a result of the winds being trapped by these snow-capped mountains and the moisture content being shed in the Indian Subcontinent. They also act as a defence barrier protecting India from other countries. Due to the harsh climatic conditions, invaders would find it difficult to cross the mountains and attack India. Another natural boundary in the form of mountains is the Ural mountains which act as a barrier between Asia and Europe. This is considered to be the oldest mountain on Earth. There are many more such mountains that guard mankind in many ways.

Did you know that forts, in the olden days, were made of natural stones and were designed with features like thick walls, moats and lookout towers to make them difficult to breach? They were built for a variety of reasons, of which the main was defence. In times of war or conflict, forts were often used to protect a town or city from enemy attacks. They were also used to control strategic locations, such as rivers or mountain passes and to provide a base of operations for a military force. In some cases, forts were also used to house garrisons of soldiers or to store important supplies and in others, to launch attacks on enemy territories from a secure location.
Stone’s protective qualities go beyond its physical strength or massive appearance. Many cultures throughout history have believed that natural stone has spiritual and healing properties. They were also used to ward off evil spirits or as a symbol of protection. For example, stones were and still are kept as talismans by some people, believing that they will bring them good luck and keep them safe from harm.
Natural stones are believed to improve air quality and help to regulate humidity, which can help to improve our overall health and well-being.![](https://sp-ao.shortpixel.ai/client/to_webp,q_glossy,ret_img,w_749,h_666/https://sati.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/stones.jpg)
